Glasses... They can make or break your look. They can take you from chic nerd, to vintage glam, to sexy librarian. Glasses are the ones of ultimate fashion accessories, especially when it comes to changing the overall feel of your look.
I was recently contacted by
Firmoo to review a pair of glasses from their blogger collection. While I just bought a pair of (very expensive and very plain) Gucci glasses, I was delighted to be offered the chance to change up my style and everyday look, and I find myself reaching for these
Firmoo frames far more often than my Gucci's.
So first things first. You might ask why I say Firmoo gives you the chance to change up your style considering that you could buy any old pair of glasses to change things up. I say this because glasses are expensive. Frames are usually $150 at the cheapest, and you're look at another 150 or more for lenses. They aren't something you purchase lightly, and you're likely stuck with them for years to come unless you're rich or have a far better insurance plan than myself. Firmoo on the other hand offers quality, fashionable frames for a$30-50 (USD), and their basic lenses are about $20. They offer a variety of lens options such as antiglare, anti-scratch protection, ultra thin options, and bi-focals. Between the variety and cheap prices, you can see why I say Firmoo is my new go-to for changing up my face game.
As far as the frames I picked and my experience ordering and wearing them, I have to say I couldn't be happier. While I'm normally adverse to buying glasses frames online due to not being able to try them on and being super picky with how glasses look on me (oh the pleasure of trying to find frames suitable for a wide face), Firmoo makes the selection easy due to their virtual try it on software. Now, this wasn't entirely accurate as you can see by my photo, but it gives you a good idea of how things will look. If you compare the software to my actual photos, you'll see that it looks almost identical, just slightly smaller width wise in real life compared to the virtual photo. This is probably because I didn't use the correct PD (the distance between your pupils) when I was uploading my photo to use.
Ultimately, I wanted to pick something different than what I'm used to (good ol' classic black frames), so I opted for these vintage inspired tortoise shells. One tip to remember is that if you have a round face like me, a general rule is to pick frames which are more square than round, something I didn't follow this time. I still can't decide if they look good on me in the traditional sense, but I can make them work with the right hairstyle.
The frames are sturdy given that they're only $50, although not as sturdy and considerably lighter in weight than any of my brand name frames. They fit well right out of the box, and my only real complaint is that they have a tendency to slide down my nose. This is no fault of Firmoo's, I just have an Asian nose (ie. no nose bridge) and every pair of frames I've bought in the past has given me the same issue (pretty much the only reason I don't wear my glasses in public – constantly adjusting them looks pretty silly).
